---- — MAPLE CITY - Doris Virginia Brammer, 81, of Glen Arbor, and long-time resident of the Grand Traverse area, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Maple Valley Nursing Home in Maple City.Doris was born April 29, 1929, to the late Benhart and Bessie (Osborn) Brammer in Highland Park.Doris relocated to the area in 1949, making her living as a school teacher. She enjoyed her career teaching Kindergarten through 3rd grade at Cedar-Bohemian settlement, Maple City; one year in Traverse City; and high school and junior high at Glen Lake Community School; retiring in 1984.Doris also spent time working in real estate and at Russell Koontz and RPK Accounting in Empire. She was active and involved with the township, serving as township clerk for 10 years and helping with emergency services. Doris was the Glen Arbor Fire & Rescue township representative during the bicentennial. She was a member of the Glen Arbor Historical Group and held several offices as part of the Glen Arbor Women's Club.Doris could often be found reading to pass her time and loved to travel whenever possible. She was a lifelong Christian and served her Lord as an active, long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glen Arbor.Doris is survived by her brother, Keith (Mary) Brammer of Maple City; her nephew, Lonnie (Norma) Brammer of Belleville, Ill.; her niece, Bonnie (Ben) Spelde of Crete, Ill.; one great-nephew; two great-nieces; and many other loving family members and friends.Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Grace Brammer.Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glen Arbor. The Rev. Daniel Krause will officiate.
