Doris Joy Nichol, 77, of Mesick, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Doris was born on Sunday, April 17, 1938 to the late Harry and Helen (DeRosia) Grover in Vanderbilt. She married Donald Nichol on Saturday, August 11, 1956 in Lapeer.
Prior to her retirement, Doris had been employed by Lear Corp. She loved to cook, garden, and enjoyed drawing, painting and anything art oriented. She really enjoyed family reunions - anything to do with family, and especially loved her family and being with them. Doris attended the Salvation Army.
Doris is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Evelyn (William) Numerick of Traverse City, Amy (Bruce) Bartz of Traverse City, Donny (Wendy) Nichol of Kingsley, Jeff (Lisa Orth) Nichol of Traverse City, Tina (Michael) Fischer of Buckley, Marianne (Kelly) Abraham of Buckley and Kimberly (Todd) Cook of Grawn. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a daughter in law Mary; her siblings, Sandy Lindner, Kathleen Peterson, Mike Grover, Bob Grover, Shirley Elharda, several half sisters and half brothers and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her sons Tracy, Brian and Harry, and siblings Pat Davis, Terry Grover and Tonia Chase.
Visitation for Doris will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the service celebrating Doris' life beginning at 11 a.m. Captain Daren Spencer of the Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Doris may be remembered through memorial contributions to The Salvation Army.
