TRAVERSE CITY — Doris I. McAllister "Dori-Doops", 82, of Traverse City, formerly of Detroit, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, surrounded by her family. Doris was born on Feb. 15, 1928, to the late Philip and Bridget (Cleary) Smith in Detroit.Doris married John D. McAllister in Detroit on Sept. 3, 1948. They made their home in Detroit until 2004 when they moved to Traverse City. Doris loved to read mystery novels, play cards, cook, do crossword puzzles, go on family boat rides, watch her grandchildren perform, laugh, and most of all, talk and hear about the lives of people she loved while sitting around the table … and a good deal. Doris always knew everyone's favorite goodies and always made sure to have them ready for them when they would come to visit. She is survived by her husband, John McAllister, of Traverse City; four children, John (Janice) McAllister, of Florida, Deborah (Keith) Bryan, of Detroit, Patricia Hughes, of Detroit, and Jeff (Jill) McAllister, of Traverse City; sister, Rita Smith, of Dearborn; brother, Phil Smith, of Detroit; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends. The family would like to thank all the staff of Munson Medical Center for the wonderful care they provided to Doris throughout her stay. Memorial services will be held in the summer.
