Doris Jean Norton

Doris Jean Norton of Williamsburg, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2026. No pain, just a peaceful exit from her earthly realm.

Born on April 20, 1932, in Cascade, Michigan, Doris was the daughter of Corry and Daphne Cookingham. On June 24, 1950, she married the love of her life, Edward Norton. Doris and Ed met roller skating. They made their home on Skegemog Point Road in Williamsburg, Michigan, where they spent more than 50 wonderful years.

Doris was gifted with creativity and a generous spirit. An exceptional seamstress, she enjoyed sewing for her daughters, made many quilts, painted, danced and poured her heart into everything — especially people. She loved others deeply and formed lasting friendships wherever she went. She devoted more than seven decades to the Order of Eastern Star, following in the footsteps of her father, Corry Cookingham, a Master Mason. She was a lifelong member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church.

Doris is survived by her daughters Jacqueline Norton (Bob Vandragt), Patricia Norton, and Karen Norton‑Martin (Pharaoh). Known as Aunt Dodie to her nieces and nephews, she is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Gail Marie; husband, Edward; daughter-in-law, Jeannette and son, Michael.

Doris’ love of life and her bright smile left sunshine in our hearts; a reminder of how deeply she touched our days.

A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at Reynolds‑Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 6th Street, Traverse City, Michigan. A viewing will take place on October 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on October 2, 2026, with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. and the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. The service will be streamed by Reynolds-Jonkhoff. Light refreshments will follow. Doris will be laid to rest beside her husband at Memorial Gardens in Traverse City, Michigan.
