Doris Irene Purvis

Doris Irene Purvis, 96, of Traverse City died Saturday, February 11, 2017 at The Villa at Traverse Point in Traverse City.
The fifth generation of her family in Traverse City, Doris was born here on Sunday, February 15, 1920 to the late Winnie and Zella (McVicar) Forton. She attended Traverse City Schools and then attended secretarial school.
Doris married Frank Purvis on Sunday, May 11, 1941 in Traverse City. She worked for the family business, Purvis Brothers, later working as the receptionist at Central United Methodist Church. Doris was the longest attending member of Central Church, having started attending there at the age of 5 years old. She loved to travel, visiting over forty countries and visiting every state in the Union. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed working in her gardens.

Doris is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Tammy Krentz) Purvis, sons, Robert (Suzanne Rogers) and William (Jamie); her grandchildren Rebecca (Nick) Slager, Andrew Lucas, Eli Purvis, Graham (Mindy) Purvis and a great granddaughter, Katherine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, her daughter Ann Lucas and brother Lawrence. The family would like to thank the staff at The Village of Bay Ridge for the wonderful care they provided Doris over the last 5 1/2 years. A service celebrating Doris' life will take place in the spring at Central United Methodist Church. The memorial service for Doris will take place at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Central United Methodist Church. Pastor Dale Ostema will officate. Her urn will be placed next to her husband's in the Columbarium of Central United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's own choosing.
