Doris Hannah Skipski, 91, a life long resident of the Traverse City area, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, surrounded by her family.
Doris was born on Tuesday, June 7, 1927 to the late Arthur and Clara (Sylt) Grant in Lake Leelanau. On March 31, 1946, she married Gaylord Grubb and he preceded her in death in 1961. In September of 1968, she married Andrew Skipski and he preceded her in death in 1992.
Having been employed at Tom's Market as a cashier for 17 years and then Chef Pierre for ten years, prior to her retirement. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 2780, where she ran bingo for over 20 years. She enjoyed playing cards, camp outs at the Grant Family Reunion and enjoyed her Kindle. She enjoyed trips to Alaska, loved her pets, but most of all she loved being with her family.
Doris is survived by her children, Gail "Lynn" (David) Stradinger of Lake Ann, Leroy Grubb of Traverse City, Lorraine "Laurie" (Ed) Bloxsom of Grawn and daughter in law Mary Grubb of Traverse City. Also surviving are her grandchildren, David and Michael Stradinger, Robyn Ellis, Natasha Thompson , Sarah Grubb, Savannah Thompson, Jason and Justin Bloxsom and Scott and Heidi Grubb. Doris has many great grandchildren who survive, as do her siblings, Julia Johnson, Louise Schaub, Betty (Cal) Cole, Bernice Conrad, Jacqueline Harrington; sisters in law Hazel, Jean, Karen and Bonnie Grant and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, Doris was preceded in death by her son Art Grubb and siblings, Elmer, James, Eldon and Marvin Grant.
Visitation for Doris will take place Friday, Nov. 9 from 6 until 8 p.m. at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral service for Doris will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
