Doris Margaret Ursu, 86, of Traverse City passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Bay Ridge Assisted Living.

Doris was born in Detroit on December 2, 1935 to the late Gordon and Margaret (Stockman) Medel. She married the late Dr. Louie Ursu on June 21, 1958 in Grosse Pointe, MI. Together they shared a wonderful life together and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

Doris lived in Detroit, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Florida and Traverse City. In her younger years she played the piano which she learned at age 7. She loved to play piano at a nursing home and at church. When her boys were teenagers, she was known to play Beethoven to relieve stress and indicate to the boys to give her space. Mozart meant this could be awhile.

Doris also loved to sing and sang at church and on the radio. She worked in her husband's dental office for 20+ years. She was also a master gardener. Doris will be remembered as a great encourager and a good listener. She believed that we are here to give to each other and lived her life accordingly.

She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind and strength. She found encouragement through others, scripture and her many devotionals.

She brought joy to caregivers and residents alike in her final years at Bay Ridge Assisted Living. She was quick to smile, enjoyed a great sense of humor and brought light to any room.

Doris is survived by her son Brian (Joan) Ursu of Leland, grandchildren, Leland, Olivia, Christopher, and Maggie, and exchange granddaughter Elizabeth from Ghana, her sister Bev (Jim Wengels) her-in-law's Evita Ursu and Samuel (Evelyn) Ursu and many other loving family members and friends.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sons Jeffery and David.

A memorial service is planned in the Gardens of the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home at 11am on June 21, 2023 with a visitation beginning at 10am.
