TRAVERSE CITY — Dorothy (Dode) Dyke Bodnar spent her early life in Traverse City, attending St. Francis school through 10th grade, graduating from Traverse City Central High School with the class of 1937. Born in Saginaw, she was the daughter of Leo P. and Catherine "Pat" Kalahar, who preceded her in death. She married Robert J. Dyke on Feb. 9, 1941; he died on Sept. 28, 1977. Surviving are their three sons, John J. Dyke (wife, Toni), of Amherst, Ohio, and Venice, Fla., Robert (Jim) Dyke, of Elk Rapids, and Thomas (Tom) Dyke of Traverse City; granddaughters, Tonya (Tim) Galaida; and great-grandson, Leo ,of Chicago, Ill.; and Stefany Dyke, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.She married Charles "Joe" Bodnar Nov., 4, 1978; he died Dec. 9, 1979. Stepchildren, Charles J. Bodnar Jr. and Geraldine Szasz are both deceased. Surviving are nine step grandchildren, the 20 great-grandchildren and 20 nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents and two husbands, Dode was preceded in death by three sisters, Isabel Fitch, Vera Whitson and Pat Whaley; and one brother, Bob Kalahar. She is survived by one sister, Helen J. Broadfoot, of Traverse City.Visitation for friends and family will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, with the Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski presiding.
