Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" Caron, 101, began her eternal journey on March 1, 2023. Dottie, "the one-day late Christmas present" was born on December 26, 1921 to the late William and Gertrude (Schmidt) Weber in Ottoville, Ohio. She was one of 11 children.
After graduating high school, she attended nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. Dottie joined the U.S. Army and served in both WWII and the Korean conflict as a M.A.S.H. Nurse, helping put back together countless young men injured in battle. She was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.
She married Alan Caron in 1947, residing in Peoria, Illinois where she was the Director of Nursing for a 300-bed nursing home. She also lived in Temperance and Kalamazoo, Michigan. In 1974 Dottie and her husband moved to Maple City where they owned and operated Maple Valley Nursing Home until retirement. In 1982 she moved to Traverse City where she resided until she passed.
She was a faithful parishioner of Immaculate Conception and she was notorious for praying the rosary 5 time per day. Dottie was also a member of the American Legion Post 199, and the Bay Meadows Golf Club. She spent many hours filling out and sending donations to a multitude of charities and her "Sweepstakes," which she knew she would win!
Dottie is survived by one sister Mrs. Betty (Phillip) Finstad of Taylor, a brother Mark (Maxine) Weber of Spokane, Washington, and sister-in-law Kathleen (Robert) Weber-Carter of Onaway. She is also survived by her grandson Joseph Caron and granddaughter Jessica Caron and four great grandchildren Lilah, Finley, Faith and Gracie.
She was preceded in death by son Martin Caron and her daughter Marion Caron, her parents, her brothers Anthony of Harrison, Earl of Portage, Howard of Ecorse, twins Thomas of Cedar and James of Bingham, William C. of Lake Leelanau, and Robert of Onaway, her sisters Eloise Weber and Carol Lovasz both of Taylor.
Visitation will take place on Friday March 17, 2023 from 5-7 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a rosary recitation beginning at 7 pm.
A funeral mass will take place on Saturday March 18, 2023 at 11 am at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 10 am until the beginning of mass. A luncheon will take place after the funeral mass in the church hall. Dorothy's final resting place will be St. Rita's/St. Joseph's Cemetery with burial later in the spring.
Those wishing an expression of sympathy may choose to contribute to the American Cancer Society, Immaculate Conception Church, the American Heart Association or the charity of one's choice in Dottie's honor.
