Dorothy Hope Carpenter, long time resident of Traverse City, passed away March 17, 2023 at the age of 94 at Boardman Lake Glens.
Dorothy was born on March 29, 1928 in Traverse City to the late Rudolph and Celia (Holmes) Neumann.
On July 11, 1946, Dorothy married William "Bill" Carpenter at the Central United Methodist Church. Together the two made a beautiful family, ran a successful business and shared over 61 years of memories and love before he passed in 2007.
Dorothy and Bill owned and operated Bill's Barbershop and Eastfield Beauty Shop on the corner of 8th and Garfield for 42 years. She also worked for Oak Park school for 13 years, helping in the library, cafeteria and on the playground. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and crafting. She was an excellent bowler and belonged to a league for over 25 years. She was very proud of her highest score of 280. She also had quite the cherished doll collection. Above all else, she loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings Joe, Fred, Robert, Joyce Morris, Celia Larabee and Florence Black.
Dorothy is survived by her three children William (Connie) Carpenter, Sandra (Mike) Zerbe and Sue (Tom Welsh) Carpenter; grandchildren Shane Whipp, Chad Whipp, Amanda (Justin) Sailors, Natalie (great granddaughter) and Karissa Carpenter.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:30. Interment will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan, Cherryland Humane Society or to a charity of one's choice..
