Dorothy Hansen of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at the Munson Hospice House on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Dorothy was born on June 17, 1923 in Emporia, Kansas to Ivy and Assinth Fancher. She lived with her family in Kansas until she was 8 years old, then moved to Crocker, Missouri. After completing high school, she attended a small business college in St. Louis then became employed at Ft. Leonard Wood, where she met her husband, Marv.

After the war ended, Dorothy and Marv moved to Lapeer, MI where they spent the next 20 years until a work promotion brought them to Traverse City, where they resided for over 50 years. Dorothy was primarily a homemaker, but worked briefly in the business office at Millikens Department Store, and administered the ASVAB test for the U.S. Military.

Dorothy enjoyed many activities throughout her life. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She knit many hats, mittens, and sweaters for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren throughout her lifetime. She was very athletic and was involved in many different sports including volleyball, swimming, alpine skiing, and her passion; golf. After retirement, she and Marv spent the winters in Gulf Shores where she could enjoy golf during both the winter and summer months. She holds the distinct honor of having achieved two "hole in ones". She belonged to several Bridge groups, and enjoyed other card games as well. Dorothy was very social and made friends easily. She was known for her sass and sense of humor.
