Dorothy Eleanor Hasse Polack, 94, of Traverse City and a lifelong resident of the area, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Dorothy was born in East Leland on Thursday, September 17, 1925 to Harold and Delia (Alpers) Egeler. She graduated from Leland High School, the Valedictorian of her class.
Having worked for Burwood Industries as a painter, Dorothy also served as the president of the Burwood Employees Credit Union. She was a very active member of the VFW Auxiliary, having served as its president on three separate occasions. She was also active in the administration of the Bingo program there and served as the bookkeeper. When she was able, she attended St. Michael's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Altar Guild.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Sue (Dick) King, Sally (Dave) Maxson and Sherry (Jim) Cockrell, all of Traverse City. Nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren also survive. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Edward Hasse; her parents and her brothers, Robert, Marvin, Eugene and Alvin.
A service celebrating Dorothy's life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, under the auspices of the VFW Auxiliary. The service will take place at the Cherryland VFW Post, 3400 Veterans Drive, Traverse City, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at a later date.
