Obituary

There is more laughter in heaven today as Dorothy Jane (Oatley) Round passed peacefully on May 12, 2014.

Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and loyal friend.
The daughter of Chester and Jennie (Farnam) Oatley, she was born on 3-10-1924, in Frankfort, MI. Upon her 1942 graduation, she moved to Traverse City. She worked in several Traverse City businesses with her favorite being The TC State Hospital in Building 50. In 1948, she married local slabtown native, Franklyn (Bud) Round (Davis Electric), at the first candlelight wedding, at the Congregational Church, in Frankfort.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Bud, son Harry James Round, sister Betty Shattuck, brother Theodore (Ted) Oatley, sister-in-law Joanne Murphy and brothers-in-law, Bob Buehrer, Bob Murphy and Bob Shattuck.

Surviving is her daughter Sue Ann Round, daughter-in-law Ellie Round, two granddaughters Alexandrea (Morgan) Mitchell, Mari Cangelose and fiancée, Robert Peterman, and three great-grandchildren, Miah, Joseph, and Tessa Mitchell. Also surviving is sister Dixie Buehrer, brother John (Katrine) Oatley, also brother and sisters-in-law, Roger (Dorothy) Round, Jeanette Oatley, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy and Bud loved life and welcomed friends and family into their homes on Second St. in Traverse City, their cottage on Elk Lake, and their condo in Lauderdale by the Sea. If loud laughter was heard, Dorothy was telling her string of jokes. She was also a wonderful listener and was concerned with everyone's welfare. Her advice: "Turn off your TVs and cellphones and have a good visit."

She was very civic-minded and loved seeing the evolution and development of Traverse City. Throughout her life, she enjoyed volunteering for many organizations and was part of several musicals at the Old Town Playhouse.

The family would like to express their profound gratitude and love to 'the band of angels' at the Traverse Victorian Senior Living Community and Hospice of Michigan for their unconditional love and care for Dorothy this past year.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Garden of Remembrance at The First Congregational Church in Traverse City. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 11:00 am.
