TRAVERSE CITY - Former Newberry resident, Dorothy "Dottie" Jean Kopera, 70, of Interlochen, died suddenly Wednesday morning August 5, 2020 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital. Dottie was born June 24, 1950 in Croswell, daughter of the late Arthur and Vera (Black) Grubba.
Dottie earned her Associates Degree in accounting and her Licensed Practical Nurse certification. She was employed as an LPN at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital and private practices for several years until her retirement.
While residing in Newberry, she was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. Dottie was an avid golfer and member of the Newberry Country Club playing in the golf leagues. She also took great pride in her hole in one in 2000 during the Tahquamenon Education Foundation Golf fundraiser. While residing in Interlochen, she was a member of the Interlochen Golf Club playing in the golf leagues. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting and reading.
In addition to her parents, Dottie is preceded in death by her sister Rita Grubba, sister-in-law Gloria Grubba and nephew Brett Grubba.
Survivors include her loving husband, Paul D. Kopera of Interlochen, whom she married August 14, 1971 in Newberry; sons Daniel (Ashley) Kopera of Memphis, Tennessee and David Kopera of Arcadia, Michigan; grandchildren Wolfgang and Hannah; siblings Mary "Fran" (Bob) Edwards of Newberry, Robert "Bud" Grubba of Newberry and Kathryn (Dennis) Williams of Newberry; several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in the garden at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Saturday, August 22, 2020 with a memorial service beginning at 4:00 pm.
