Dorothy Ann Olson, 81, of Traverse City, passed away
Monday, July 29, 2013 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.

Dorothy was born on Monday, December 28, 1931 to the late Herbert D. and Barbara (Bennett) Fisher in Clio. The family moved to the Cadillac area where Dorothy graduated from Mesick High School. On Saturday, June 3, 1950, in Cadillac, Dorothy married Richard D. Olson. They moved to Traverse City in 1958 having previously lived in Cadillac.

Over the years, Dorothy worked as a switchboard operator for Michigan Bell and later for Thirlby Clinic until she retired. Dorothy ran a day care for children and she and Dick also served as foster parents, helping to raise 35 foster children. She enjoyed being an active member of the Grawn United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed working on crafts.

She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Anderson of Traverse City, Tina
(Richard) Lewis of Lake Ann; her grandchildren, Bree (David) Sanford of Traverse City, Sara (Tom) Brown of Interlochen and Tracey Wynn of Florida; her great granddaughters, Madyson, Whitney, Zoe and Aubrey; her nephews, James (Judy) Hicks of East Tawas, David (Debbie) Hicks of Oscoda, nieces Phyllis (Ronald) Hensel of Montrose and Shelly (Joseph) Ferreira of Saginaw, Pam (Mark) Kuch of Oklahoma, Penney (Otis) Courville of Texas and Piper (Erik) Gals of Nevada; many very special great nieces and nephews and special sister- and brother-in-law Barb and Jack Pallick of Texas. She was preceded in death by parents, her husband, her son Richard, Jr; son-in-law Ed Anderson and sisters, Ruth Fisher and Helen Hicks.

Funeral services celebrating Dorothy's life will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, August 7 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with Pastor Mary S. Brown officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Monroe Center Cemetery.
