Dorothy Imogene Smith, 94, of Suttons Bay, Mich, formerly of Royal Oak, Mich,
Lakeland, FL and Poplar Bluff, passed away Sunday, Nov., 27, 2016.
Born in Como, Missouri, she was the daughter of Charles E.and Martha (Hyten)
Powell. She graduated from Neelyville High School. On Oct. 30, 1932, in Toledo,
Ohio, she married Boyd Morgan Smith, also from Poplar Bluff.
Dorothy was the youngest girl in her family of ten children and was fondly referred to
by them, as "Doll". She made a wonderful home for Boyd and her four children
while volunteering her time as a preschool Sunday School teacher, church women's auxiliary member and president, and both boys and girls Scout Leader. She was
a life time member of the Order of Eastern Star #392.
Dorothy often said she "liked to watch things grow" and nurtured robust vegetable
gardens and beautiful roses.
In recent years, friends often mentioned her easy laugh, and warm smile.
She will be remembered for her cheerful , caring manner.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Fred E. , (Jackie), Smith, of Madison Heights,Mich, Boyd M. "Sonny"(Linda Sue) Smith, of Cheboygan, Mich, and Linda
K. (Leonard) Fawcett, Suttons Bay, Mich , six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, as well as extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Boyd, son Gary Lee, and siblings
Vachel, Verba, Vanita, Virginia ,Virgil ,Wellman, Melvin, Kenneth and Charles.
Visitation will begin at 11:00am, Tuesday, December 13th at Cotrell Funeral
Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at the Chapel at noon,
officiated by Rev. Jim Schremp. Burial will be at Lone Hill Cemetery in Butler County.
