TRAVERSE CITY — Dorothy M. (Jarmer) Steiner, 89, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014.
Dorothy was born on Dec. 18, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Herman W. and Beulah M. (Root) Jarmer. She married Fred J. Steiner in June of 1943.
Dorothy was formerly of Richmond, Michigan, and moved to Traverse City in 1983. She was a life member of the Armada Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #261, Richmond O.E.S. Lodge #168 and the Traverse City O.E.S. Lodge #147. Dorothy was also a member of the Eagles and the Elks.
She was an auxiliary volunteer of Munson Medical Center, former Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother and a member and former president of the Richmond Federated Club.
Dorothy enjoyed her dogs, gardening, particularly her cacti, spending time with her friends and traveling. She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Surviving Dorothy are her sister, Betty A. (Dorlen) Groleau; grandchildren, Dawn, Renea, Jenny and Josh; six great-grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews; and several adopted relatives.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Timothy Jon in 1975 and Frederick John II in 1983; three brothers, William, Clark and Edward; nephews, Jim, Bill and Ed; and her husband, Fred in 1997.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., with a visitation held from 10 to 11 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
