Traverse City - Dorothy Rose Ungrey, 92, of Traverse City and formerly of Grand Rapids, died Monday, May 07, 2012 at Tendercare of Traverse City.
Dorothy was born on Saturday, September 20, 1919 to the late Irvine and Alice (Cummings) Highland in Lansing, MI. The family moved to Grand Rapids and Dorothy graduated from Union High School there. She married Charles Eugene Ungrey on August 19, 1940 in Grand Rapids and he preceded her in death in 1967.
Prior to her retirement, Dorothy had been a secretary for the Kent County Health Department. She loved to sew, knit and crochet and enjoyed making clothing for her children. She also enjoyed gardening and was a voracious reader. One thing she particularly enjoyed were day trips with her daughter to visit places that she hadn't been before.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ungrey of Traverse City and Charlene (James) Randall, also of Traverse City. Dorothy also is survived by her grandsons Michael and Terry. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Michael and her brothers, Albert Haviland and Robert Highland.
A memorial gathering may take place at a later date and Dorothy will be buried next to her husband in Rosedale Memorial Park in Grand Rapids.
