Obituary

LAKE ANN – Douglas "Doug" M. Campeau, 78, of Lake Ann, died on March 10, 2026, with his loving wife, Dawn, by his side.

He was born March 8, 1948, in Traverse City, the son of Alfred J. and Evelyn M. (Verreau) Campeau.
Doug grew up on Secor Road in Long Lake Township, where he worked on his parents' dairy farm, and for neighboring farmers as a young boy and teenager.

Doug is survived by his wife, Dawn (married July 30, 1976); his children, whom he loved dearly, son Greg Campeau and wife Ruthann, their son Aaron, and his daughter Ava Marie. Daughter Callie Dee and her daughter Ella Ann Rose; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Julius (Jake) Campeau and Fred (Freddy) Campeau; sister Rolene Steuer; and many aunts, uncles, and extended family members.
During Doug's teen years and high school years, and afterward, he worked at Cliff's Gas Station at the corner of 14th and Union Street, Grand Traverse Osteopathic Hospital in Traverse City, and for the Grand Traverse County Road Commission.

Doug graduated from Traverse City Senior High School in 1968.

Doug worked many years in excavation, including with Peninsula Asphalt, Cherryland Asphalt, and Long Lake Gravel, Inc., where he worked for 11 years (1976–1987). He then worked for the Grand Traverse County Department of Public Works for 21 years, the last 10 as field manager, until he retired in March 2008. After retirement, he worked part time for Lark Lawn and Garden.

Doug was a charter member of the Lake Ann Lions Club, American Water Works Association, Benzie ATV Association, and a member of the Lake Ann United Methodist Church for a number of years.
Doug enjoyed hunting, camping, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling, and dancing to his favorite country western band, "Tennessee 2+2" later renamed "Two Ole Broads and Three Buddies" as well as spending time at his cabin in the U.P. (Camp Git-R-Done). Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his wife, children, extended family, and friends.

Doug was a dependable man of great integrity, a good provider, a loving Husband, Dad, and Papa, known to most as "Uncle Doug" as well as a good friend to many, always ready to lend a hand.

Doug will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Doug's life will be announced at a later date.
