Douglas "Doug" Earl Pettit Jr., 44, of Traverse City, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Munson Medical Center.
Doug was born on July 22, 1970 in Pieora, IL to Douglas Earl Pettit Sr. and Doris "Dory" Elaine (Wittmer) Hutchison.
Doug was a dedicated man who strived to help people. He served as a counselor at Best Drug Rehabilitation in Manistee. He also served the Grand Traverse community as a TCAPS bus driver, in addition to working as driver and dispatcher for Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) for 9 years.
In his spare time, Doug enjoyed porch time smoking stogies with his "brothers," jamming on his bass guitar, and spending quality time with loved ones.
Doug was both a renaissance man and gentle giant. He will be fondly remembered for his wisdom, great conversation, huge heart and witty sarcasm that filled his character. A wonderful father, brother and son, he left a lasting impression on many in his short life. Words cannot express how much he will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving Doug are his children, Ayriel and Seth Pettit, mother Dori (Tom) Hutchison, siblings, Heather (Doug) Petrimoulx, Todd (Katie) Pettit, Rachel Pettit, step-children, Dustin and Kelcey Gavar, mother of his children Rosa (Pettit) Luna, special friends, Dave Peterson (The Sons Undone brothers), Steve Schroeder, Toby Leonard and his favorite cat Oliver.
A memorial service celebrating Doug's life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Mt. Zion Church at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Youcaring.com website under Doug Pettit or to his family to help with final expenses. Please sign Doug's online guestbook at
