Douglas Stephan Fall passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions at the age of 67.
Doug was born on January 19, 1957, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort, Michigan to Douglas F. Fall and Victoria A. (Hulka) Deering. He comes from a blended family with the following siblings according to birth order: Roxanne K. Fall, Holly J. (Fall) Hincks, Richard J. Braden, Richard A. Fall, Anderw J. Fall, Maridee D. (Fall) Cutler, Lesley D. (Fall) Wineberg and Kristie J. (Fall) Vanbuskirk.
Doug graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1975. He completed the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California – First Battalion Platoon 1075. Doug was also a member of the United States Army Reserves with the primary specialty as a (0311) Rifleman and earned a Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He received an Honorable Discharge effective June 26, 1981. With great pleasure Doug displayed his marine picture and boot camp book.
In 1979 Doug married Holly Jo Jewell and had one son, Bradley J. Fall. In 1986 Doug married Karen J Krupp and had the three following children, Casey E. Fall, Daniel D. Fall, and Kaylin R. Fall. In 1999 Doug married Susan E. Mageli and had one daughter, Olivia R. Mageli.
Doug proudly owned and operated Master Craft Wood Floors from his residence in Kingsley, MI. Early on he began his carpentry career working with his father in Texas. He worked hard to grow his knowledge of types of wood, creating and trying new techniques, and was always willing and eager to push himself to do something really special. He loved working with wood and proved to be a master craftsman installing and refinishing wood floors.
Doug enjoyed most activities that involved the great outdoors in Northern Michigan. He especially enjoyed camping as a family at Higgins Lake, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, morel mushrooming, swimming, and boating. Doug encouraged his children to embrace nature in Michigan's beautiful four seasons as he did. Kaylin recalls, her dad embraced nature to the fullest and appreciated the beauty of our local area which encompassed how he viewed and lived his life. He loved his children and often showed pictures of them from his photo albums.
He took pride in his home and yard. Doug had a dye collection of cars that would encourage a connection between young and old. Doug had a delightful sense of humor, a teaser, and strived to keep things fun. Despite severe health issues, Doug proved to be resilient, kind, a gentleman, grateful for the smallest gift or gesture. He was a good listener and made friends with staff and residents at various residents.
Doug is survived by his mother Victoria A. Deering (Traverse City, MI.).
Surviving Siblings according to birth order: Roxanne K. Fall (Traverse City, MI.), Holly J. (Fall) Hincks (Interlochen, MI), Richard A. Fall (Traverse City, MI.), Anderw J. Fall (Myrtle Beach, SC), Maridee D. (Fall) Cutler (Beulah, MI.), Lesley D. (Fall) Wineberg (Richibucto NB, Canada) and Kristie J. (Fall) Vanbuskirk (Chandler, AZ).
Surviving Children: Bradley J. Fall (Traverse City, MI), Casey E. Fall (Fife Lake, MI), Daniel D. Fall (Fife Lake, MI.), Kaylin R. Fall (Cedar, MI.) and Olivia R. Fall (Traverse City, MI.).
Surviving Grandchildren: Grace Renee Clous, Sydney Nichole Clous, Quinn Jelane Lautner, and Cass Jack Atkins. An aunt, uncle, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by father, Douglas F. Fall and brother, Richard J. Braden.
The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff in Traverse City, MI. at 11:00 am with a Visitation beginning at 10am. Military Honors will take place. Rev. Jim Perra from Grace Episcopal Church will officiate the service.
