Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY —
Douglas Wallace Hunt, 81, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at his home.
Douglas was born Monday, Nov. 11, 1929, to the late Wallace and Beulah (Carlisle) Hunt in Traverse City. He entered into marriage with the former Daisy Evelyn Sullivan Saturday, June 14, 1958, in Traverse City.
Douglas was a native of Traverse City and graduated from Traverse City Central in 1948. He worked in the grocery business, retiring from Tom's Food Market in 1993. Douglas was a member of the Traverse City Lions Club from 1965 to the present. He served as secretary for many years, has served as president for the past two years, and was a very active member participating in many fund-raising events.
He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War in 1953-56. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Mitchell Creek Senior League for many years. He was a collector of diecast model cars and had over 100. He was a country and western fan, classic country and western, loved Marty Robbins, and had a music collection of records, tapes, and CDs of country, big band and jazz. He enjoyed traveling and camping and most importantly, he enjoyed his family, friends, and especially his granddaughters, Stephanie and Kelli.
Douglas belonged to West Bay Covenant Church. He enjoyed the many friends at the church, and also at The Village of Bay Ridge, where he lived since November 2006. He played pool with friends, and helped many of the neighbors.
Doug is survived by his wife, Daisy E. Hunt, of Traverse City; daughter, Sue A. Westlake, and son-in-law, Robert J. Westlake, of Traverse City; his granddaughters, Stephanie and Kelli Westlake; his step-mother, Gladys "Hap" Hunt, of Traverse City; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at West Bay Covenant Church, with Pastor Kent Anderson officiating. Graveside committal services will be held in Oakwood Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Traverse City Lions Club or to West Bay Covenant Church.
