While in the service Doug developed his skills in photography through the Syracuse University Navy Program, becoming a photojournalist for the military during and after the Vietnam War. Doug retired from the Navy after 22 years of service.Doug was a true photographer at heart. He rarely was without a camera and seemed to always work in some form of freelance photography with clients, including Sunset Magazine, Indian Peoples Magazine, American Indian Report Magazine, New York Times, LA Times, Santa Fe New Mexican, The Washington Post, LA Times, The Associated Press, Getty Images, The Catholic News Service and others.
