Doyle Alfred Berg

Jan 6, 1943 — Jun 30, 2026

The ever-moving force called Doyle Berg (83), of Traverse City, Michigan, has come too quickly to rest. He passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2026. His incredible spirit came to life on January 6, 1943 in Petoskey, Michigan to Wilbur A and Virginia N Berg (Drake).

Doyle was a native of Bellaire, Michigan. He was born into a family of Water Well Drillers, and spent his life providing fresh water to a five county region in Northern Michigan. He owned and operated 6 businesses in his lifetime, but he was the proudest of his 6 generation company; Berg Well Drilling.

He held a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and also attended LeTourneau and Kilgore Colleges in Texas. In his youth he was an avid competitor in sports and carried that torch into business where his greatest concern was providing a good living to all those he employed.

Doyle’s lifelong goal was to live out his faith with integrity and compassion and he taught his family to do the same. He had infinite energy and gifts that he gave freely to his family and the community he touched every day. The last portion of his life was shaped by a trip to Haiti that fueled a water well drilling operation, an orphanage, and churches that have now impacted thousands. Most importantly, this journey led to the adoption of his beloved daughter.

He often asked people of their dreams, and if he could help fulfil them, he did. He lived life on fire, sustained by an energy few could understand. His final race to the finish line of his life was fearless and courageous. He loved well and was well loved in return. His legacy of hard work and dedication will endure through his family. He will truly be cherished and missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dawn Marie Berg (Irwin), son, Doyle (Beth) Berg Jr of Lake Ann, MI, daughters, Kimberly (Stephen) Fulton of Traverse City, MI, and Manise Marie Berg of Traverse City, MI, his grandchildren, Doyle (Shelby) Berg III of Lake Ann, MI, Stephen Fulton Jr of Cocoa, FL, Krystle (Martin) Crean-Steinborn of Interlochen, MI, and Whitney (John) Boecker of Traverse City, MI, two great grandchildren (arriving in November), sister, Nancy (Eddie) Stoneburner of Zeeland, MI, sister-in-law, Gail (Phil) Danner of Thomasville GA, two brothers-in-law, Dale (Libby) Irwin of Marion IN, and Gregory (Bethany) Irwin of Traverse City, MI, a sister-in-law, Michelle (Dean) Lochner of Marion, IN; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother, David W Berg and wife,

Melody “Kay” Berg (Wilburn), his brother, Glenn R Berg, his father-in-law, Ivyal L Irwin Jr, mother-in-law, Rosalind M Irwin (Emery), and brother-in-law, Ivyal “Ike” Irwin III.
