Obituary

Duane Eric Borsvold closed his final tab on Tuesday, July 14, at the age of 57. Duane was born in Detroit, MI, on February 28, 1969. Growing up in Novi, MI, he was an active member of his church's youth group and participated in the band program at Novi High School. Duane met his wife, Tracey (Fritz) in high school and kept crossing paths with her throughout their lives. On March 26, 2003, they were wed at Walt Disney World in FL. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Kingsley, MI, where they built their life together.

Duane lived life with a strong Norwegian heart, finding his peace working in his yard and keeping things in order. While he was never one to care for crowded rooms or big gatherings, he was a master of the quiet corner of a local bar. Sitting with a cold drink, he had an effortless ability to strike up a conversation with any stranger, turning them into friends by the end of the night. Above all, he found his greatest joy while sharing stories and laughs with his friends and family. He truly believed that a well-lived life is a life well-toasted.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Tracey (Fritz) Borsvold, his father Harold Borsvold, sisters Cindi Sailus (Paul) and Krista Geyer (Tom), along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra (Preuett) Borsvold. Relationships were important to Duane. Keeping in touch with those he cared about created a long legacy of shared laughs and happy memories.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at St John Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills, MI, at Noon.

A final “Gravøl” (traditional Norwegian grave-beer celebration) to empty our glasses and celebrate his journey will be held at Middlecoast Brewing in Traverse City, MI, on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 3pm-6pm. Come pull up a stool, bring your best stories, and let's give him the send-off he deserves.

Skål!
