Obituary

Edward Patrick Juras, 72, formerly of Kewadin and Bloomfield Hills, MI passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 29, 2012 at his home.

A beloved, spiritual, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, E. Patrick Juras is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janet Marie Juras and their four children - Kathleen (James) Ducharme and their children Andrew, Matthew, and Caroline; Kelly (Kenneth) Wink and their children Christian, Laurel, and Abby; Paul (Lara) Juras and daughter Kiana Marie; and Steven (Katherine) Juras. He is also survived by two siblings - Michael (Mary) Juras and Henrietta Juras and many loving family members and friends.

E. Patrick Juras was born on August 23, 1939 in Detroit, MI to the late Edward and Genevieve (Swiderski) Juras. He attended De La Salle High School in Detroit and undergraduate college at the University of Detroit. He then graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Wayne State University Medical School in 1964. Patrick entered blessed matrimony in June 1964 with Janet Marie (Kelly) Juras in Detroit, MI following his medical school graduation.

Pat then served his country and trained in Anesthesiology at the United States Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland as a Lieutenant Commander with the United States Navy. Upon his discharge in 1971 the family returned to Michigan where he practiced medicine at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, MI. After a rewarding career as a caring and respected physician, Dr. Juras retired in 1997. In 2000, Pat and Janet built their dream house in northern Michigan.

Pat enjoyed his retirement teaching religious education at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, MI and volunteering at the Traverse City Community Health Clinic where he specialized in diabetes care. He also enjoyed reading, photography, bird watching, travelling, and spending time with his family.

Pat was a proud and devoted father and husband, and will be remembered most fondly for his kind-hearted spirit, humility, and boundless generosity. He will be deeply missed.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a vigil service commencing at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City, MI with Rev. Anthony Citro officiating.

Grave-side committal services will be held in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Mausoleum at a later date.

Memorial contributions in his honor may be directed to Hospice of Michigan, Catholic Relief Services, or Food for the Poor.
