Eberhardt "Eb" Rudolf Frixen age 85, of Glen Lake began his journey into Eternal Life in the morning of Saturday, January 25, 2014 after a long illness.
The journey began in the presence of his family at the base of the beautiful fireplace he built in his beloved home on Little Glen Lake's north shore.
Eb's earthly journey began in Garstedt, Germany on April 8th, 1928. His family came to the United States when he was a small boy. However, those who knew him best would agree that while it may be possible to take a boy out of Germany, it is much more difficult to take Germany out of the man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Emmy (Lutgott) Frixen, brothers Wilfred (Fred), Albertus (Bert), Gerhard in Germany, and a nephew Bobby.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Mary (Fellows), Sons Jim and Reagan (Camille DePalma), grandchildren Nick, Melissa, Olivia, and Gabriella, and a great granddaughter Charlie, all of whom live in the area. In addition, he is survived by sisters-in-law Shirley Frixen of maple City, Joan Frixen of Interlochen and many nieces , nephews, grand-nieces and grand nephews.
Well known as a perfectionist, Eb owned and operated a service station in Franklin, Michigan with his brother, Bert. He moved north in 1965 where he built the home on Little Glen Lake in which he lived for the remainder of his life. Eb and Mary owned and operated Wanderers' Rest Resort for over 40 years, which gave them the opportunity to meet and enjoy many renters who eventually became dear friends and neighbors. Eb took great pride in keeping the resort grounds and cottages immaculate, which many renters appreciated.
The family would like to acknowledge with gratitude Dr. John O. Zachman and Dr. Sarah Seaver of Milliken Medical Center, the nursing and support staffs of Munson Medical Center, Sparrow Hospitals in Lansing, Munson Home Health and Hospice who provided excellent care as his earthly journey reached its conclusion.
A time to share memories with the family will take place at a visitation to be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Friday,January 31, from 4-7PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 11AM at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior.
The family is planning a "Remember Eb" gathering at their home this summer for those who are unable to attend the above activities.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation are encouraged to consider the Salvation Army or the Father Fred Foundation. Eb's family suggests that the best way to honor his memory is to create a happy memory of your own by taking time to do something enjoyable with those you love.
