Edith Kathleen Ollar Newmeyer, 86 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.
Edith was born on November 15, 1928 in Detroit to the late Charles Alfred and Florence Evelyn (Crawford) Toll. She graduated from Clawson High School in 1946 where she proudly participated in the marching band, was the drum majorette and was a cheerleader. After school she married the late Frank Ollar on February 1, 1947. Together they had 6 wonderful children; William, Donna, Robert, David, Laura, and Dan.
Edith and Frank owned and dedicatedly ran the Dale Gauge & Manufacturing Company in Plymouth, MI. Edith also worked in the school lunch program in Traverse City and just recently retired from her job working for an attorney. When she was not working she thoroughly enjoyed raising her family. She raised her family in a Christian Home and taught her kids to love the Lord. Edith's children brought great joy to her throughout her life.
After Frank's passing in 1971, she married William Newmeyer in November of 1974. He passed away less than 9 months later. Edith enjoyed hobbies that included ceramics, bird watching, and feeding the birds.
Her class, incredible sense of humor, and courage will be deeply missed by all who knew Edith.
Surviving Edith are her children; William (Gail) Ollar of Canton, MI, Donna Newmeyer, of Hopewell, VA, Robert (Karen) Ollar of Onaway, MI, David (Mary Ann) Ollar of Novi ,MI , Dan Ollar of Traverse City, grandchildren; Kimberly Rose, Gary (Connie) Ollar, Katherine Mayes, Dana Newmeyer, Kylene Ollar, Kristen (JT) Tam, Tiffany Ollar; great-grandchildren, Briana (Jonathon) Mullins, Gary Ollar, Jr. , Jason Mayes, and Sophie Tam.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank Ollar, daughter Laura Ollar, and husband William Newmeyer.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 3pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2-3pm. Burial will take place at the Oak View Cemetery in Royal Oak on Saturday November 22, 2014 at 2pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
