Edward Putnam Dewar, 80, of Traverse City died peacefully at home with his children by his side on September 27, 2022.
Ed was born to the late Vern and Beulah (Putnam) Dewar in Traverse City on November 20, 1941.
After growing up in Traverse City, Ed moved to the greater Detroit area to work as a funeral director. He cared for families for over 26 years. It was also here that he met and married the love of his life, Kathleen Mary Sweeny. Together they started their family and became active in the community. He was an awesome coach for many little league sports teams, most notably football.
Following the end of his career in funeral service, they returned to his home town where he owned and operated Dewar's Lures bait shop. He then went on to become a school bus driver where the kids fondly knew him as "Mr. Ed". He was very involved with the schools and often volunteered his time mentoring kids. One of his greatest achievements was founding the Safety Patrol Program at Millcreek Elementary. Above all else, he loved time spent with family and friends fishing, playing cards, hunting and traveling with his wife Kathy.
Ed is survived by his children Lori (Steve) Montero from Torch River, MI. and Scot (Julie) Dewar from Chassell, MI, 2 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Kathy; parents; brother Bill Dewar; and sister Ann Lober.
Visitation will take place on Friday September 30, 2022 from 5 -7pm at St. Mary Of the Woods Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday October 1, 2022 at 11:00am with visitation beginning at 10am also at the church.
