Obituary

Edward Michael English, known as Mike to one and all, passed away at the age of 76, on September 26, 2024 at his home with his wife, Jeanie, by his side.
Mike was born June 13, 1948 to Earl and Alice (Edwards) English in Portland, Oregon. On December 31, 1975 he married Jeanie Pavlis in Kodiak, Alaska.
He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1973.
He was a commercial fisherman in Alaska for 35 years, fishing for King Crab, Snow Crab, Salmon, and Herring. He loved to be out on the water and boating.
Mike volunteered for many years in Buckley Community School, the Maritime Heritage Alliance, and was a devoted member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Mike will be remembered for his integrity, considerate disposition, kind heart, good character, hard work, steadfast nature, and sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanie English, brothers Louis (Diane) and Robin (JoAnne) English, his foster daughter, Laverne Thompson and her son's Matthew and Michael, his nephews Ben (Riane) and Tygh (Laura) English, and many good friends and neighbors.
He was an avid collector of art, leaving behind a large collection. He was a devoted, loving partner to Jeanie, for fifty years and will be missed deeply.
Mike will be laid to rest at the Grant Township Cemetery in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, a mile from his home of forty-eight years. An online tribute in Mike's honor, and in celebration of his life, will be made at a later time for friends and relatives from all over the world to share in.
Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the UNICEF Malawi K.I.N.D. Fund scholarship program to help rural girls in Malawi attend secondary school. Through the years, Mike and Jeanie have had the honor of sending many girls to secondary school through this program and have been rewarded by knowing the positive impact it has on many girls' lives.
