Edward Ford Smith, age 75, of Traverse City, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 surrounded by his family; 15 well-lived months after being diagnosed with glioblastoma.
Edward, known as Ed or Eddie to his friends and family is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary RazSmith; children: Tyler (David) Rychlewski, Evan (Emily Carver) Smith; grandchildren: Clara, Charlie, Torren; brother, Bob (Wendy) Smith; and nieces: Lori and Amy.
An athlete and sports enthusiast, Ed welcomed any challenge on a court, field or golf course. For over 50 years, Ed surfed waves from New Jersey to California and skied mountains on multiple continents with his children and grandchildren, always seeking out and enjoying the steepest and fastest terrain.
Ed retired from Accenture after an exceptional career working as a Management Consultant. He was a problem solver and enjoyed giving practical and professional advice to those around him; you could always count on Ed for a good idea and his time. He loved to mentor people and volunteered with organizations making a difference in the world for the environment and social equality.
Ed will be remembered for his infectious laughter, endless positivity and energy, and the hope he inspired in others, even in the most brief of encounters. Every moment spent in the same room with Ed left a mark on your heart. Always one to spark up a conversation with whomever was in earshot, he made sure to pass on his optimism and knowledge, always paying it forward.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in the Garden of Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 6th St. Traverse City. A green burial will follow in Peninsula Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Munson Hospice: https://
