Edwin Paulson, originally of Boston Location (in the upper peninsula of Michigan), most recently of Traverse City, MI, 96, died peacefully in his sleep in Traverse City on August 18, 2024 about a month before his birthday. He was the proud father of five, Beverly/Al, Wayne/Claudia, Edward, James, and Karl/Kathy, and a grandfather of nine, and great grandfather of fourteen. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Anne (Aho) Paulson, sons Edward and James Paulson, and siblings, Paul, Ester, Fannie, and Wilho.
Edwin was a proud veteran of the Army Air Corp (1945-47) having worked as a mechanic on bomber planes at the end of World War II. He spent many years working at several auto companies around the Detroit area, eventually retiring after a long career at the Ford Motor Company in 1986, starting as a mechanic and ending as a service engineer working in Dearborn. He experienced some special projects while at Ford including visiting the Kennedy Space Center working for NASA. One of his experiences at Ford also included working in the group that created the first diesel engine manufactured by Ford.
Edwin loved being outdoors, dealing with hands-on activities, and taking care of everyday things. He especially liked spending time with his children and grandchildren who he taught to be resilient with basic things in life. He helped everyone he knew with car problems, basic home maintenance, or other hands-on problem solving.
Late in life, Edwin volunteered with local charitable organizations. He and Anne spent time as volunteers at the Traverse City Senior Center, helping with meals and dishwashing on any given day. He became a regular "driver" for seniors, providing transportation services for people many years younger who needed support. Even while spending the last few years in assisted living, he appreciated getting out to visit local restaurants to have dinner and a beer with anyone willing to break him out.
The family has scheduled a memorial service in Traverse City on October 12, 2024 @ 3:00pm. A short visitation opportunity will occur on October 12 from 2:00pm-3:00pm; both the visitation and memorial will be held at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City MI. The family invites attendees to share a light meal and time for family and friends to visit to occur locally after the memorial (TBD). Edwin will be buried in the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet Michigan, next to his wife Anne, and sons Edward and James.
He will be sorely missed.
