Edwin Timothy Simpson, 83, of Empire, Michigan died January 15, 2021 surrounded by family, at Munson Hospital in Traverse City, Michigan.
Tim was born April 14, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Edwin and Gladys (Coyle) Simpson.
Tim grew up in River Forest, Illinois and attended Oak Park River Forest High School in Oak Park, Illinois. He continued his education at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. Tim proceeded to earn a law degree from DePaul University College of Law in 1963.
Tim practiced law for over fifty years. He maintained a private practice in Wheaton, Illinois as well as a position with the DuPage County Public Defender. He sought justice through the law for his clients. Tim retired to Empire, Michigan but continued to be an active community member. He worked with local real estate and was a member of the Empire Village Council. He was also a member of the Sleeping Bear Noontiders Club. In his free time he enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing, golf, boating, snowmobiling, and sitting at the Empire Beach to watch Lake Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Dianne Simpson; children, Elizabeth Simpson and John Simpson; step- children, Amy (Phillip) Pohlod Zezulak and Christopher (Angela Clark) Pohlod; Christopher's children, Sydney Pohlod and Erin Pohlod; and special friend Helena.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
A visitation and service will be held at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City Michigan on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 3-5PM. Interment will take place in Wheaton, Illinois at Trinity Episcopal Church when COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
