TRAVERSE CITY — Elaine Couturier, 86, of Traverse City, passed away Feb. 23, 2011, at Munson Hospice House. Elaine was born on April 30, 1924, at her family's home in Leland to the late George and Ellen (Brown) Steffens. After graduating from Leland High School, Elaine married the love of her life, Walter Couturier. Together they shared 62 wonderful years before he passed away in 2005. They enjoyed golfing, spending the winters in Florida and snowmobiling. They were both avid sports fans and especially enjoyed watching baseball. Elaine was an excellent cook and loved to play Bridge. Elaine was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Leland. Elaine is survived by her children, Kim (Joanne) Couturier, Lynn (David) Basler and Deborah (Thomas) VerHoeks; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Fern Hawley. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; siblings, Dorothy, Leonard, Eleanor, Shirley, Fred, Bruce, Robert, Marie, Evelyn and an infant brother; and son-in-law, William Mikowski. A memorial service for Elaine will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the time to be published in Friday's edition of the Record-Eagle.Memorial contributions in Elaine's honor may be directed to Munson Hospice House or to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
