Elaine Annette Tomlinson, 87, of Cedar passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Grand Traverse Pavilions. She was born on May 7, 1928 in Buckley, Michigan to the late Gilbert and Nettie Valleau.
Elaine delighted in being a stay at home mother when her sons were young. She later went to work at the Traverse City State Hospital and retired when the hospital closed. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout the world. She and her partner, Ray, wintered in Bullhead City, AZ for years.
Elaine looked forward to deer season and hunted until she was physically unable to. She avidly watched the wildlife from her window and could name every bird on her numerous feeders. Elaine was an enthusiastic mushroom hunter and appreciated the beauty of Leelanau County.
Elaine is survived by four sons; Larry (Rhonda) Tomlinson, William (Cynthia)Tomlinson, Jeffrey Tomlinson and Steven (Hope)Tomlinson, grandchildren; Elizabeth Tomlinson (Ed Reynolds), Andrew (Lisa) Tomlinson, Jacob (Amanda) Tomlinson, and Matthew Tomlinson, two great- grandchildren; Samuel Reynolds and Linnaea Tomlinson. She is also survived by her longtime partner, Ray Johnson. Elaine was preceded in death by a son, James D. Tomlinson in 1955.
Elaine was a very practical and a forward thinker. She has donated her body to the University of Michigan, School of Medicine. Her remains will be cremated and interred at Down's Cemetery beside her parents. No funeral services will be held, per her wishes.
