Eleanor May Niergarth

Eleanor May Niergarth, 96 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 8, 2013 at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City.

Eleanor was born on the family farm on November 5, 1916 in New Lothrop, MI to the late Delva and Ethel (Marble) Burpee.. After her mother's death as a young lady she packed a bag and went to the nearest town to find a good job. She ended up at Citizens Bank in Flint and this is where she would eventually meet her late husband John Niergarth. After John died she moved to Traverse City in 1984. She worked at Thompson Pharmacy as a talented garment fitter until her retirement.

Eleanor enjoyed cooking, baking and loved her unique chicken and rooster collection. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Surviving Eleanor are her children, Conrad (Joyce) Niergarth, Joell (Francis) Newton, grandchildren, Steve (Lisa) Niergarth, Paula (Doug) Parshall, five great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Northern Michigan.
