WILLIAMSBURG — Eleanor Martha Rives, 97, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully Aug. 3, 2010, at Munson Hospice House with her family by her side.Eleanor was born on Dec. 12, 1912, in Detroit, one of 15 children to the late John and Lydia (Diska) Arbitter. She married the late John Edward Rives on May 27, 1935. Together they had three wonderful children.Eleanor was a wonderful gardner and had beautiful gardens. She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family. Sewing and needlepoint were also things she enjoyed doing, everything from dresses to costumes. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will be deeply missed by her family.Surviving Eleanor are her children, Sally King and Jerald (Sharon) Rives, both of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Diane (Rick) Swoverland, Cathy McColley, Deborah Tate, Jerald "Curt" (Holly) Rives Jr., Scott Rives; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, John Edward Jr.; and 14 brothers and sisters.Private family graveside services will be held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice.Please sign Eleanor's online guestbook at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.comThe family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
