Traverse City - Elizabeth "Bid" Scamehorn, 94 of Traverse City passed away October 23, 2012 at Munson Medical Center.
Bid was born on July 18, 1918 on her family's farm in Maple City. She was one of six children of Anthony and Anna (Sbonek) Tarchinski.
On August 22, 1938 she married the late Donald C. Scamehorn. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Bid was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church as well as a parishoner of the St. Lukes Catholic Church in Barefoot Bay, Florida where she has wintered for the past 35 years. She was also a charter member of the Daisy Chain at the Traverse City Elks Club, and a member at both the Traverse City Golf and Country Club and Barefoot Bay Golf and Country Club where she was club champion, and carded a hole-in-one. Bid enjoyed her time as a member of the Catholic Ladies Discussion Group. In her spare time she enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, reading and watching sports. She was a fantastic cheerleader for all of her grandkids and attended as many sporting events as she could. She loved spending time with her family.
Bid is survived by her daughters Ellen (Gary) Longcore of Suttons Bay, Liza(Arnie) VanNunen of Traverse City, sons Don (Claudette) of Traverse City, Jim (Linda) of Traverse City, and John (Deborah) of Viera, Fl., 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and sister Nan Slane of Auburn, Ca.
In addition to her husband, Bid was preceded in death by her infant grandson Jeffrey and siblings Sophie Rose, Tony Tarchinski, Evelyn Whiting, and Loretta Plamondon.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be led by Father James Hayden on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bid may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to the Dogwood Wing at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
The family would like to thank the staff at Dogwood for the exceptional care they provided to Bid over the last two years.
