Elizabeth 'Betty' Vanriper

Traverse City, Elizabeth "Betty" VanRiper, 88, of Traverse City passed away on November 21, 2023, at Boardman Lake Glens.
Betty was born on April 27, 1935, in Traverse City to the late Leonard A. and Margaret (Hoard) Pratt.
On January 18, 1964, Betty married Glenn VanRiper. They lived briefly in Colorado before returning to Traverse City and then moving again to Bonita Springs Florida.
Prior to marriage, Betty was a 1953 graduate of Traverse City High School and attended Central Michigan University. She earned her nursing degree from North Central School of Practical Nurse Education. She was an LPN and Operating Room Nurse for 40 years, working at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City and Naples Community Hospital in Naples, FL. She culminated her career by working within private practice.
After retirement in 1999, she and Glenn moved back to Traverse City where she continued to serve as a volunteer at Munson Medical Center. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with friends and family.
Betty is survived by her sons, Steven (Amy) VanRiper of St. Cloud, FL; David VanRiper of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren, 1LT Nicholas (Jessie) VanRiper (US Army) of Newport News, VA and Emma VanRiper of Hackettstown, NJ; sister, Shirley Gleason of Derry, New Hampshire; and niece Karen Kane of Ontario, Canada.
Following cremation, private graveside committal services will be held in Oakwood Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Glenn.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice.
