TRAVERSE CITY - Ellen P. Pfeuffer, 90, of Traverse City, joined her husband once again on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the French Manor South Assisted Living in Traverse City.

Ellen was born in Fowler on March 15, 1929 and was raised by her loving paternal grandparents, Mary and Gotlieb Castner. She had five sisters and one brother and grew up attending the Fowler and St. Johns school systems.

On June 12, 1948, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Saginaw, she married the love of her life Robert J. Pfeuffer who preceded her in death in December 2003. She missed him dearly and never a day passed that she didn't reflect on their special times together.

Ellen and her husband Robert started their life together in Albion where he attended college. They later moved to Royal Oak to start their family. The love of the outdoors and the fresh northern air eventually found them in the Kalkaska area where Ellen remained until her retirement. She later resided in Traverse City and lived there for the next 30 years.

Ellen loved spending time with her children and watching her grandchildren grow up into young adults. She loved any opportunity she had to bake for them all and enjoyed sharing moments from her life and the lessons she had learned as a young girl from her grandmother, the late Mary Castner. She loved listening to the birds, watching the flowers bloom every spring, reading any book or article she could get her hands on, painting, any arts and crafts and taking trips with her husband after he retired. Being barefoot was an absolute true pleasure.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1988 and was truly devoted to her daily Bible studies every morning before her day began.

Survivors are a son, Robert J. Pfeuffer of Traverse City; two daughters, Sheryl L. Pfeuffer and Bonnie S. "Cork" (Jerry) Dzuber , all of Las Vegas, Nevada; her sisters, Jeanette Durbin of St. Johns, and Joanne Brunner of Lansing, a brother, Terry Castner of Las Vegas, Nevada; four grandchildren, Kelli A. (Matthew) Phelps of Oconomowoc, WI, Amy P. Sharp of Boulder City, Nevada, Kyle R. (Ashley) Pfeuffer of Kalamazoo and Allison L. Pfeuffer of Traverse City, along with four great grandchildren, Ella, Claire and Matthew Phelps, Jr. and Scotlyn Pfeuffer. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Catherine Myers, Doris Bauman, and Jane Gillson as well as her husband Robert.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at French Manor South for their constant care and dedication in making Mom feel cared for and loved. She looked forward each day to her visits and talks with "the girls".

Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial gathering to celebrate Ellen's love for life at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2019, with visitation from 10-11am.
