Elmer Richard Allgaier, 95, of Traverse City passed away, peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 at Munson Medical Center. Elmer was born on September 30, 1921 in Leelanau County to the late Francis and Anna (Ansorge) Allgaier. He was married to Charlotte Rice on April 17, 1948. She preceded him in death on January 8, 1992.
Elmer was born and spent his childhood on the family homestead on Allgaier Road. As a young man he moved to Traverse City to work at the State Hospital where he continued his love of farming by working on their grounds. In 1947 he purchased 120 acres on Culver Road where he raised his family. His love of farming had him spending many an hour on his favorite John Deere Tractor. He also was a skilled carpenter and built several homes in Grand Traverse County and the surrounding area. Elmer was a jokester and was well known among family and friends for his sense of humor and quick wit. He was an active member at St. Patrick Catholic Church and belonged to the men's club. Elmer had a deep faith and he prayed the Rosary daily and he lived his faith everyday.

Elmer is survived by two daughters and two sons; Linda Burrows, Judy (Bob) Robinson, Tim (Paula) Allgaier, Bill (Jean) Allgaier, and a sister, Mary Jane Allgaier. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Amanda Burrows, Sara (Jake) Belfry, Kalen (Katie) Robinson, Kinsley (Mike) Brann, Kendall (Shannon) Robinson, Sydney Allgaier, Jon-Paul Allgaier and Nathan Allgaier as well as great-grandchildren; Jaxon, Kianna "Gracie", Ashlynn, Lydia, Lucas, Isaiah, Evelynn, Max, Karson, Keegan, Chloe, Hadley, Aven, Hayes, Lenix and Remy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, a daughter, Peggy, wife Catherine, a brother; Clarence, four sisters; Margaret, Hilda, Ethel and Dorothy as well as his beloved companion, his dog, Sonny.
