Eloise Marie Walters

Eloise M. "Elly" Walters, 79, of Grawn passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 14, 2014 at her home.

Elly was born on Saturday, November 3, 1934 to the late David Noel and Laura Mary (Brow) Couturier in Leelanau County. She married Firmin C. Walters on Saturday, September 18, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau.

Employed by Meijer for 21 years prior to her retirment, Elly enjoyed her membership at The Interlochen Eagles 3503, attended St. Patrick Catholic Church when she was able and was an avid bowler with her husband. She enjoyed sewing and quilting as well as canning the harvests of her garden. Elly had a wonderful sense of humor, was a great task master and enjoyed her family, often sending them home with food and canned goods from her home.

Elly is survived by her children, Jean M. (Wolfgang) Klien of Pleasant View, AZ, Janice A. Walters of Interlochen, Joyce Y. Vickers of Grawn, Randy P. (Sharon) Walters of MN, Ray A. (Marie) Walters of Tempe, AZ, Roger L. Walters of Grand Rapids, Jacquelyn M. (Craig) Amenson of Interlochen; her grandchildren, Scott Kevwitch, Jenica Gonzalez, Bryan Walters, Anna Walters, Kristopher Walters, Noelle Walters, David Ray Vickers, Corbin Walters and Cody Vickers; her great grandchildren, Ashlee, Jonathan, Taylor, Gary, Alex and Bennett. Elly is also survived by her siblings, Ruth (Victor) Kalchik of Lake Leelanau, Luella (Dale) Furnish of Scottsdale, AZ, Anna May (Jerry) Kelinski of Cedar, Gerald Couturier of Ludington, David C. (Dorothy) Couturier of Lake Leelanau, Bernard (Martha) Couturier of Bellevue, Alvin (Vicki) Couturier of Arkansas, Leonard (Deloris) Couturier of Lake Leelanau, Linus (Loretta) Couturier of Cedar, along with many nieces and nephews. Elly was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, Raphael and her son in law David Vickers.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau, with her nephew, Father Paul Kalchik presiding. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau.
