Elsie Frances Kasper, 87, of Kalkaska, formerly of Northport and Traverse City, passed away quietly Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center-Eden Center in Kalkaska.
Elsie was born at Gills Pier in Leelanau County on November 25, 1931, one of four daughters born to Joseph and Frances (Kolarick) Sedlacek. After graduating from Northport school, she attended Beauty College in Lansing. She married Don A. Kasper on October 5, 1957 at St. Wenceslaus Church at Gills Pier. For over forty years she owned and operated Kut and Kurl Beauty Shop in Northport. She enjoyed keeping busy with gardening and landscaping at the home she and Don built over the years. Many holidays and celebrations were enjoyed by family at their home. In later years they enjoyed traveling to many parts of the country. After moving to Traverse City in 2001, she continued to work as a beautician at Bay Ridge Senior Apartments, showing how much she loved people and her job.
Elsie is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Leighton and Sonia Schuler, both of Williamsburg; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Lauren) Leighton, Troy Leighton, Traysa Leighton, Carl (Tanya) Singleton, Crystal (Kevin) Giangiobbe, and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Genevieve (Jerry) Patterson and Mary Jo (Wayne) Plamondon as well as several nieces and nephews. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents and a sister, Dorothy A. Kalchik.
Visitation for Elsie will begin at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 14 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the service celebrating her life beginning at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in the spring.
