Emerald A. Magee

Emerald A. Magee, 85, of Traverse City , died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at his home.

Emerald was born on Sunday, May 15, 1927 to the late Lewis D. and Stella (Coon) Magee in Boyne Falls. He served our country as a member of the U. S. Army during WW II. He married the former Marlene J. Mang on Saturday, September 8, 1951 in Goshen, IN.


Employed as a machinist at Cone Drive, Emerald retired on June 1, 1989 after 33 years of service to the company. He was an active member and Past President of the Geneological Society of Traverse City, past, chairman and member of Local 21 UAW and it's Retirees group, as well as a member of miscellaneous retirees groups, a life member of the Northwest Michigan Engine and Thresher Club in Buckley and a member of the Prostate Cancer Support Group. Emerald was an avid bowler, a sport he enjoyed tremendously.


Emerald is survived by his children, James of St. Helen, Valerie (Edward) Deloy of Travese City; a brother, Hershall (Judy) Magee of Alden and a sister, Fannie Udell of Traverse City. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Linda, James, Sherry, Justin and Samantha and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene on Oct. 6, 2003, an infant child, a son Charles, daughter in law Holly, brother Marshall, sisters Josephine Montgomery, Amelia Magee and a grandson David.

Visitation for friends and family will be held beginning at 12 noon Thursday, May 16 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral service will will follow at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home with Pastor Justin Grimm officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
