Eric Roy Edson, 62, of Traverse City, surrounded by his family left his earthly life on June 30, 2024 after learning he had cancer just 10 days before.
Eric was born on Mach 6, 1962 to William "Bill" Joseph Roy and Sharon May (Goodman) Edson in Detroit. He grew up in Huntington Woods and attended Burton School. He moved to La Habra, California for five years and then along with his family moved back to Michigan where he finished his senior year of high school. He then went on to Lansing Community College. The family built a building at 4 mile and US 31. Eric stained all the shingles on the building to earn enough money for a plane ticket to California for his senior prom.
Eric's two boys Ashton and Adrion were the love of his life. He was so very proud when Ashton became a marine and when Adrian played football on the freshman team for Central. He enjoyed "moving the chains" in any weather anytime the team needed help.
In 2012 Eric earned his real estate license and joined his mom at Real Estate One and the Edson Rosa team where he excelled in the real estate world. He will be sorely missed as his moms right and left hand!
In his free time, Eric loved playing golf, spending time on the water and traveling. The Edson family philosophy was and still is, "The world is a book and those who do not travel only read one page." Some of his favorites were trips to Italy, Paris, Singapore, Bali and several Christmas' spent in Montreal. They also shared a very memorable trip to the West Indies where he captained their sailing vessel through incredibly stormy seas. He poured over charts and brought the family in right on the money!
There are so many cherished times including fond memories at their cottage on Elk Lake. When he was young, his grandpa Max built he and his brothers a tree house. Together they painted it and ended up with more green paint on themselves than on the tree house!
Above all he will be missed for his quiet knowledge of so many things, much of it self-taught. He also loved his country with passion.
Eric was preceded in death by his father Bill, grandparents Marge and Max Goodman and Roberta "Fyke" Engstrom; Aunt Terry Borror and uncle Bob Borror.
Eric is survived by his sons Ashton and Adrian; mother Sharon Edson; brothers Scott Edson and Chris (Jessica) Edson and best friend Lynn Knepp. Lynn was also his amazing care giver 24/7 during his final ten days. She is such a blessing to Eric and all of his family. Every family should be so fortunate to have a Lynn. He is also survived by aunts and uncles Jill (Rod) Peters, Denae (Tom) Neirman and Roy (Carol) Edson; cousins Michael Edson, Tim Edson, Stephanie Edson, Perri Neirman, Page Neirman and Ryan Peters, Jason(Leisa) Max, Ethan Colt, Courtney (Lori) Borror; nieces Lily, Eva and Chloe Edson. Eric also leaves behind so many cherished friends from all walks of his life.
The memorial service celebrating his life will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11 am with visitation beginning one hour prior at the First Congregational Church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Wounded Warriors, an organization he supported for many years.
