Ernest "Jim" James Powell, 94, of Traverse City and Elk Rapids passed away January 23, 2024.
Jim was born on October 24, 1929 in Elk Rapids, MI to the late Merion and Lillian (Sutter) Powell. He was the third oldest of nine children. Honorably, he served our Country in the United States Army. Following his time in the service he attended a March of Dimes Dance in Traverse City where he met and fell in love with a beautiful City girl, Phyllis Ann Kadrovich. They were married on June 13, 1953 in Elk Rapids and lovingly raised one great son Richard.
Jim worked 37 ½ devoted years for Michigan Bell/Ameritech and retired in 1993.
Jim's zest for life was evident in his love for RV adventures and dancing alongside his cherished wife, Phyllis. Whether at work or at home, he found joy in staying active—be it shoveling snow, blowing leaves, or tending to the lawn. His willingness to help neighbors reflected his caring spirit. Jim's love for the outdoors was profound, and he'll be remembered fondly by all who were touched by his warmth and generosity.
Jim is survived by his wife Phyllis of 70 devoted years, his son Richard (Karen) Powell and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and all 8 siblings.
