Ethel M. Benzenberg (88) passed peacefully November 26, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was welcomed into heaven by her Lord and Savior and into the loving arms of her husband Jack. Ethel was born October 19, 1925 in Cross Village, Michigan to the late George Joseph Leo and Violet Leo Arp. Ethel married Jack Benzenberg on October 17, 1946 in Saginaw, Michigan. Jack preceded her in death on February 10, 1990. Ethel and Jack moved to Traverse City in the late 1950's to raise their three daughters. Together they owned and operated the City Center Motel. Ethel was a proud member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Her life was solely devoted to her family. Daughters Lonna (Bob) Israel, Sandy (Dennie) Merrifield and Jackie (Art) Cole. Also surviving is her brother George (Karen) Leo; six grandchildren, Joseph (Shannon) Stickney, Derek (Jana) Morton, Nikki (Chris) Millward, Natalee (Knute) Zehner, Adam (Inger) Cole and Ashly (Jared) Howton. Ethel's eight great-grandchildren will miss her dearly; Samantha, Marina, Lily, Gaby, Jack, Noah, Isaiah and Finley. Ethel was a beautiful, elegant, classy, kind spirited lady. She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of calling her a friend. In accordance with Ethel's wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside family service will be celebrated at a later date. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may consider a donation to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
