Eugene J. Fleszar, 81 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Munson Hospice House with his family by his side. Gene was born on November 20, 1933 in Detroit to the late John and Bernice (Skalba) Fleszar. He was married to Joan Soroka on May 30, 1956. Gene proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Gene had been employed as a tool maker for Cadillac retiring after 37 years of service. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, but his favorite pastime was fishing. Gene will always be remembered as a hard worker and a devoted family man.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan, three sons and two daughters; David (Melissa) Fleszar, Denise (Jim) Truesdell, Tim (Char) Fleszar, Chris (Candice) Fleszar and Anne (Matt) Bohrer. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, a brother, Chester Fleszar, a sister-in-law, Lillian Fleszar as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by two brothers; Ted Fleszar and Stanley Fleszar and sisters in law Julie Fleszar and Camille Fleszar.
Friends are welcome to visit with Gene's family on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City. The family will pray the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at St. Francis Catholic Church, 1025 South Union, Traverse City, with visiting one hour prior. Rev. Fr. Polycarp Mblarawa will officiate. Burial will follow in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
