Obituary

Traverse City - Eugene F. Spencer, 95, of Traverse City passed away September 15, 2014 at his home.

Eugene was born on October 31, 1918 in Detroit to the late Floyd and Anna (Kohler) Spencer.

Gene honorably served in the United States Army Air Corps in WWII from 1943 to 1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific.

On June 15, 1946 Gene married Mary Frances Chevalier in Highland Park. Together they made their home in Detroit until 1978 when they moved to Traverse City. Eugene was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Elks and the VFW. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening.

Eugene is survived by his son John W. "Bill" (Trish) Spencer of Oceanside, CA, daughter Kathleen Hanson of Vancouver, WA., daughter-in-law Kathleen Spencer, grandchildren Susan (Jared) Zenmiester, Dan Hanson, John Hanson, Erin (Mike) Berkowtiz, Amy Spencer, and Allison (Ben) Stout.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Thomas, brother Robert and sisters Anabelle Speke and Alice Brooks.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Christ the King Catholic Church on Friday September 26, 2014 at 11 am. Graveside services will be held privately at Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice.
