Traverse City – Eugene (Gene) D. Zoulek, 71, of Traverse City passed away October 22, 2015 at his home, after a short battle with a rare cancer.
Gene was born on January 31, 1944 in Traverse City and was raised by the late Helen and John Schulte.
Gene served our county honorably as a member of the United States Army in the Vietnam War. Afterwards, he went to work as a Plant Engineer for the Osteopathic Hospital until enjoying early retirement at 55.
In his spare time, Gene loved to deer hunt, fish, and anything car racing. He also took great pride in his lawn and enjoyed just being outdoors. He especially loved his trips to Minnesota for ice fishing with his son.
Gene also enjoyed his summer job working at the Northwest Michigan Fair and is a lifetime member. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the fairgrounds.
Gene is survived by his son Kevin (Sandy) Zoulek, siblings Jay, Larry, Gordon (Judy), and Kathy (Frank) Mikula, many nieces and nephews, and many friends. Gene was loved by all who met him.
The family would like to thank the nurses at the Traverse City VA Clinic, and those at Munson Oncology for their care of Gene.
A Memorial Service will be planned for a later date, visit Reynolds-jonkhoff.com for details.
